Truly a pioneer to the county was J. D. Spooner, who came with his family to Hernando in a two-horse wagon from Bainbridge, Ga., in 1875. Here's a good photo of the Spooners and their son, Ashley, at the homestead, probably in the late 1880s. The house still exists today.
